Mystras

The Byzantine Castle Town
Step back in time with a visit to the Byzantine wonder of Mystras — a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with medieval churches, the palace of the last Byzantine emperor, and the towers of several other rulers. The architecture of Simosmare Resort draws inspiration from this majestic site.
Wander among its atmospheric ruins, soak in its spiritual ambiance, and enjoy stunning views of the Spartan plain and the Eurotas River.
A flourishing city-state and cultural center of the European Renaissance, Mystras was home to the philosopher Plethon Gemistos, one of the key thinkers behind the Italian Renaissance. Twenty years after his death in 1452, the Italians honored him by relocating his remains to the Metropolitan Church of Ferrara, where his tomb remains to this day.
Tip: Begin your visit from the Upper Gate and descend — especially in summer — for a more comfortable experience.
